A significant internal conflict has erupted at Google's headquarters in California, potentially setting a precedent for the entire IT industry. This week, a massive petition signed by over 4,500 employees was delivered to the company's CEO, Sundar Pichai. The workers are demanding strict guarantees against sudden layoffs, citing the corporation's unprecedented financial success.

### Profit vs. People

The action was initiated by the Alphabet Workers Union. A protest took place outside the company office, where union president Parul Koul set the tone for the event. According to her, the current situation regarding layoffs is not a forced measure during a crisis, but a conscious choice by management.

"Don't fool yourselves: this is a company experiencing colossal, unprecedented success. These layoffs and cuts are not a difficult decision, but rather profit being placed above the people who keep this company running," Koul stated.

As an argument, the union cited figures: Google's market capitalization stands at $4 trillion. Over the last six years, this figure has quadrupled, which, in the employees' view, makes mass layoffs unethical.

### What Employees Are Demanding

The text of the petition contains specific demands for the corporation's leadership aimed at increasing social protection for personnel. The union is seeking the following changes:

    - Establishment of guaranteed severance packages for all employees in the event of termination.

    - The option for workers to resign voluntarily before being laid off involuntarily.

    - The option to receive a severance package in the form of paid leave.

    - Abolition of the performance rating system, which is based on meeting quotas rather than the actual merits of employees.

### Management Response and Context

Official representatives of Google have not yet commented on the petition received. Parul Koul reported that no response was obtained when the document was delivered to the CEO's office. The petition was accepted by a staff member of Pichai's office, who promised to forward it to the leadership. Koul noted that this is the largest employee feedback regarding job security in the company's history.

These events are unfolding against the backdrop of a general trend in the technology sector. Like other IT giants, Google is optimizing its workforce while simultaneously increasing spending on artificial intelligence development.

In recent months, the company has carried out a series of layoffs: about two months ago, employees of the cloud division were fired quietly, and last summer the company eliminated more than a third of managers leading small teams. Against this backdrop, Google's top executives continue to announce plans to increase investments in AI, which, according to the union, is the cause of the pressure on personnel.
