# 5,000 Drones in June: How Ukraine Counters Russia's Mass Attacks and Adapts Air Defense Tactics

Massive Russian attacks are forcing Ukraine to constantly seek and implement new methods for defending its airspace. In June, interceptor drones played a key role in repelling strikes, proving to be an effective tool against "Shahed"-type unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

This was reported by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, in his Telegram channel. According to his data, the Defense Forces destroyed approximately 5,000 "Shahed" class drones and other similar UAVs in June.

### Interceptor Drones: The First Line of Defense

Syrskyi noted that 55% of all destroyed strike drones were neutralized by first-echelon interception crews. This refers primarily to interceptor drones, the number of which Ukraine is increasing monthly alongside the training of the corresponding crews.

Particularly significant results were recorded in the Kyiv region. There, interceptor drones destroyed more than 500 aerial targets in June, while a total of more than 600 Russian aerial weapons were neutralized in the capital region over the course of the month.

According to Syrskyi, as the number of such crews grows, so does their level of training. Military personnel constantly analyze combat results to determine the most effective models for deploying interceptors during mass attacks.

### Coordination and New Technologies

Operational interaction and coordination centers play an important role in countering aerial threats. They allow for faster decision-making and effective management of the forces and assets deployed to repel attacks.

Ukraine is also enhancing the capabilities of the fourth echelon of interception. Automated turrets are being increasingly utilized in combat operations. In June alone, they destroyed 26 Russian aerial weapons.

The Defense Forces are deploying a network of remote control points to strengthen the interception system. The Army Aviation of the Ukrainian Ground Forces destroyed 338 aerial targets in June. To increase effectiveness, combat helicopters are being equipped with new missile systems, optoelectronic stations, and modern video surveillance systems.

### Countermeasures and Production Development

Russia continues its missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities and villages, increasing the share of jet drones and loitering munitions. The occupiers are accumulating forces and means for new mass strikes.

In response, Ukraine is strengthening its air defense, electronic warfare, and direct air defense capabilities. Additionally, the Defense Forces are striking Russian facilities where aerial weapons are produced, stored, or launched.

While the Defense Forces are increasing the number of interceptor drones and seeking new ways to shoot down "Shaheds," Ukrainian manufacturers are expanding their range of UAV defense systems. In particular, the company Contra Drone has presented a system combining more than 20 solutions for detecting, jamming, and intercepting drones. Among the new products are the MADS automated mini-air defense complex for destroying FPV drones, an electronic intelligence system, mobile electronic warfare assets, and interceptor drones.
