# African heatwave at the end of June: how the weather in Ukraine will change in 2026

### Approach of the African anticyclone

In the last days of June 2026, Ukraine is expected to experience a powerful wave of African heat. An anticyclone arriving from Western Europe will bring scorching air, leading to a sharp rise in temperatures. In most regions, thermometer readings will rise to +32…+38°C.

It is important to note that as air masses pass over the European continent, they will partially lose their extreme potential. This will help avoid the record values observed in France, where temperatures may reach +45°C.

### Heatwave timeline

According to current forecasts by synopticians Natalya Didenko and Vitaliy Postrihany, the temperature regime will change as follows:

- **June 26–27 (Friday — Saturday):** Gradual warming. Most regions are expected to see comfortable temperatures of +24…+29°C. In the south and west, the air will heat up more intensely — to +30…+35°C. In the capital, Saturday is forecast to be around +29°C.
- **June 28 (Sunday):** Heat will cover most of the country. Temperatures will rise to +30…+34°C, while western regions will face scorching heat up to +33…+37°C. In Kyiv, temperatures are expected to reach up to +32°C.
- **June 29–30 (Monday — Tuesday):** Peak of anomalous heat. During the day, the air will scorch to +34…+38°C. Nights will become “tropical” — temperatures will not drop below +20…+24°C, creating additional strain on the body.

### Precipitation and forecast for the first decade of July

Throughout almost the entire territory of Ukraine during the peak temperature period, dry and clear weather will prevail. Brief thunderstorms in late June are possible only locally in the eastern regions and in some areas in the center of the country.

Preliminary calculations by the Ukrainian Hydrometcenter indicate that a relief from thermal pressure is expected around July 2. Nevertheless, the first decade of the following month is generally forecast to be quite hot and dry.
