## 🎯 Key Points

- Cristiano Ronaldo ended his career with the Portugal national team at the age of 41.
- The reason was an open conflict with head coach Jorge Jesus.
- Ronaldo played 234 matches and scored 146 goals for the national team over 23 years.

The era of great Portuguese football has come to its inevitable yet sudden conclusion. 41-year-old forward Cristiano Ronaldo has announced his final departure from the Portugal national team after more than two decades of service to the country's main squad. This decision is the result of a rapidly escalating conflict with head coach Jorge Jesus, who openly stated that the veteran star would not be included in the squad for upcoming official matches.

### Background and the Forward's Final Matches

The final chords of Ronaldo's incredible international career were the 67 minutes he spent on the pitch in a match against Wales. However, the coaching staff's subsequent decision to leave the forward on the bench for the entire match against Norway sparked an extremely sharp public reaction and open dissatisfaction from the player. Tensions reached their peak in late September 2026, when Jorge Jesus confirmed at an official press conference that Cristiano would not be called up for the crucial game against Denmark.

### Epochal Achievements and Records

Cristiano Ronaldo defended the colors of the national team for 23 years, starting his journey back on August 20, 2003, in a friendly match against Kazakhstan. During this time, he transformed into an absolute living legend of world football, setting impressive records: 234 matches played and 146 goals scored in the national team shirt. Together with the squad, the forward achieved historic triumphs, winning the 2016 European Championship and twice claiming the UEFA Nations League trophy.

### Contradictory Data

While official sources and federation statements focus on purely sporting rotation principles and the strict stance of coach Jorge Jesus, independent sports observers point to a deep psychological crisis in communication between the veteran and the coaching staff. Some media outlets report that Ronaldo plans to hold a separate press conference in the near future to "tell the whole truth" about the real reasons behind his departure.

### Consequences for the Portugal National Team

Cristiano Ronaldo's departure marks the beginning of a complex generational transition period for the Portugal national team. The coaching staff will need to urgently restructure the team's tactical framework and search for new attacking leaders capable of at least partially compensating for the colossal scoring potential and mental influence of the five-time Ballon d'Or winner.
