# Air Raids and Delays: Why Getting a Foreign Passport in Ukraine is Currently Difficult

In Ukraine, citizens may face temporary delays in obtaining foreign passports and other documents. The reason for the missed deadlines is not bureaucracy, but a real security threat: constant combined attacks by Russia on Kyiv using drones and ballistic missiles.

RBC-Ukraine reports this based on an official statement from the "Ukraine" Polygraph Kombinat — the enterprise responsible for printing documents.

### How air raids affect passport printing

The "Ukraine" Polygraph Kombinat is forced to stop production processes every time the air raid siren sounds. This is necessary to evacuate employees to safe shelters. However, stopping and subsequently restarting high-tech equipment is a complex and labor-intensive process.

Switching the machinery to safe mode, and then precisely calibrating it after the all-clear is sounded, requires significant time and additional technological operations. It is precisely these forced pauses that directly affect the speed of document printing and shift their issuance deadlines.

### Official position and working conditions during the war

In the Kombinat's statement, it is emphasized that the disclaimer regarding possible delays in passport processing during the martial law period is official. Despite shelling and difficult conditions, the enterprise's workforce is operating at maximum capacity to ensure production continuity and issue ready passports to citizens as quickly as possible.

Employees are urging Ukrainians to understand the situation, explaining that the delay is caused by the need to save the lives of personnel during attacks.

### How to check the status of a document

Citizens who have already submitted their documents are recommended to track their status independently. This can be done through the special service "Check the Status of Document Processing" on the official website of the Department of Migration Service (DMS).

Recall that earlier, a petition was registered on the website of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine requesting the return of the "nationality" field to official documents. The initiative proposes to restore information about ethnic origin in birth certificates, paper passports, ID cards, and the digital "Diia" application.
