# Alcaraz returns to Cincinnati: all-in before the US Open against Sinner's dictatorship

The tennis world has finally waited for the long-awaited decision from Carlos Alcaraz. The world's third-ranked player has officially confirmed his participation in the August Masters tournament, which will take place in Cincinnati, USA. For the Spaniard, this move is critically important as he has not appeared on the courts since April due to a serious wrist injury.

### Long break and return strategy

The 23-year-old Alcaraz last stepped onto the court for a competition in Barcelona. It was there that he sustained the injury, the consequences of which proved catastrophic for his schedule. The Spaniard was forced to miss the French Open, where he was supposed to defend his title, as well as Wimbledon. Now, his return is not planned to be instant: he will skip the next major tournament in Montreal.

The choice of Cincinnati is a strategic move. Alcaraz is using this tournament as a testing ground to check his fitness before the main battle of the year — the US Open. Notably, last year it was in Cincinnati that the Spaniard became champion, winning the trophy after Jannik Sinner's withdrawal.

### Sinner's dictatorship

While Alcaraz was recovering, the balance of power in the tour changed radically. His main rival, the Italian Jannik Sinner, has established a real dictatorship. This year, the Italian won all five Masters 1000 tournaments and successfully defended his title at Wimbledon.

Now, Sinner is heading to the tournament in Montreal as the undisputed favorite. If Alcaraz can perform successfully in Cincinnati, he will be able to prove that he is ready to challenge Sinner's leadership on clay and hard courts on the eve of the US Open.
