# All of Ukraine's Retail vs. One Walmart: Shocking 2025 Statistics

![Walmart shopping cart with logo and slogan 'Save money. Live better.' in a store aisle, symbolizing the retailer's market dominance](https://xab.info/media/2026/07/31/vsa-roznitsa-ukrainy-protiv-odnogo-walmart-statistika-2025/vsa-roznitsa-ukrainy-protiv-odnogo-walmart-statistika-2025-1.webp)

Ukraine's retail sector in 2025 demonstrated remarkable resilience: despite the ongoing war, the market not only survived but continued to consolidate. However, comparing domestic figures with global giants reveals a colossal gap in business scale. Over the past year, the total turnover of Ukraine's retail trade amounted to 2.09 trillion hryvnias (approximately $50.6 billion). For context: just one American corporation, Walmart, earned $681 billion in the same period. This is almost 13.5 times more than the entire Ukrainian market.

### Global Gap in Scale

The figures vividly demonstrate how small Ukrainian retail is compared to global leaders. Walmart, being the wealthiest retailer on the planet, generates revenue that constitutes 35% of the total turnover of the top 10 largest FMCG chains in the world. For comparison, the second chain on the list, Costco, earned $275.2 billion, while the German Schwarz Group (owner of Lidl and Kaufland) earned $219.5 billion.

If we take Walmart's scale as a benchmark, all of Ukraine's retail trade accounts for only 7% of it. Even if we consider only the top 10 grocery chains in Ukraine, their combined revenue of $13.7 billion (27% of the country's total turnover) looks like a modest 2% of the income of a single American giant.

### Leaders of the Ukrainian Market

Despite the global lag, fierce competition for dominance continues within the country. The market is clearly structured, and the "Big Three" retailers hold key positions:

    - **ATB:** The undisputed market leader with a turnover of 247.3 billion hryvnias. The chain holds a substantial market share of 40%, making it the main player in the sector.

    - **Fozzy Group:** The second most significant player. In 2025, the entire group of companies showed a financial result of 200.4 billion hryvnias (~$4.47 billion). At the same time, revenue specifically from grocery retail amounted to 165.9 billion hryvnias.

    - **Novus:** Completes the top three with revenue of 34.69 billion hryvnias (~$832 million). Notably, this chain demonstrates the highest margin among top players — 1.63%.

### Who Controls the Shelves

Ukrainian grocery retail, despite external challenges, continues to grow and consolidate. Major chains such as ATB, Silpo, Novus, and Varus are shaping the trade landscape, controlling a significant portion of turnover. However, looking at the world map, where the Japanese chain 7-Eleven manages more than 86,000 outlets, it becomes clear that Ukrainian companies still have a long way to go to reach global scales.
