# Amazon Declares War on Starlink: Launching 5000 Satellites for Global Connectivity

The global space race for internet access is reaching a new level. Tech giant Amazon has officially announced its intention to deploy its own orbital constellation capable of providing mobile connectivity anywhere on the planet. The plan is ambitious: launching over 5,000 satellites designed to challenge the monopoly of Elon Musk's SpaceX Starlink service.

### Official Mission Start

The first step in realizing this large-scale project was the submission of an application to the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC). In the document, Amazon outlined its plans and expects to receive official permission to build and operate the network. According to the company's roadmap, the full deployment of the system and reaching design capacity is scheduled for 2028.

The new satellite infrastructure will not be limited to data transmission alone. According to the developers' concept, the system will support voice calls, messaging, and provide access to emergency services. This opens up possibilities for using the service in remote regions where terrestrial infrastructure is absent or destroyed.

### Competition with the Monopolist

Today, the satellite internet market is almost entirely controlled by the Starlink service. However, by betting on mobile connectivity, Amazon intends to change the balance of power. The appeal to the regulator demonstrates the company's serious intentions to occupy its niche in the space segment of telecommunications.

### Geopolitical Context and Russian Threat

The development of satellite technologies is taking place against the backdrop of sharp geopolitical debates. Billionaire Elon Musk previously stated that the Russian army managed to obtain Starlink terminals through smuggling channels. In response, SpaceX was forced to implement a "whitelist" of users to deny access to the service to unwanted clients. Musk emphasized that the company never sold equipment directly to occupiers.

### Russia's Countermove

In response to the technological dominance of Western companies, Russia is also activating its space programs. The second batch of domestic "Rassvet" satellites, intended to become a Starlink analogue, has already been deployed into orbit. Although the spacecraft are still taking their places in the orbital constellation, experts expect this to happen in the near future, which will intensify competition in orbit.
