The High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine (VAKS) has delivered a final verdict in the high-profile case of former People's Deputy Andriy Derkach. The panel of judges found the ex-parliamentarian guilty of treason and illegal enrichment, sentencing him to 15 years of imprisonment.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing an official statement from the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP). The court hearing marked the culmination of a long investigation into the activities of the politician, who held a seat in the Verkhovna Rada of the III-IX convocations.

### Sentence Details and Asset Confiscation

In addition to the prison term, the court imposed strict property measures. Confiscation of all private property was ordered against the convicted individual. This decision aims to deprive the criminal of the material base obtained through illegal activities.

Furthermore, the court established a ban on holding certain positions. Derkach is prohibited from holding any posts in state authorities or local self-government bodies for three years, which effectively closes his path to returning to the Ukrainian political elite.

The court's decision will enter into legal force within 30 days if the defense does not file an appeal. In the absence of an appeal, the verdict will become final.

### Scheme of Working for Russia and Illegal Income

The investigation established specific facts that formed the basis for the charges. Between 2019 and 2022, Andriy Derkach received more than $500,000 from Russian sources. These funds were paid for activities aimed at undermining Ukraine's national security.

The court qualified these actions as working for the aggressor state. It was this aspect of the case, along with illegal enrichment, that became key in delivering the harsh sentence.

### Chronology of Events and Status of the Convicted

The process against Derkach developed at a rapid pace against the backdrop of his change of citizenship and political orientation:

- **September 2022:** The former deputy was declared wanted. Shortly thereafter, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree imposing sanctions against 37 individuals, including Derkach.

- **October 2022:** VAKS selected detention as a preventive measure in absentia.

- **January 2023:** The Verkhovna Rada prematurely terminated Andriy Derkach's deputy powers. In the same month, he was stripped of Ukrainian citizenship.

- **November 2023:** Law enforcement agencies submitted the indictment to the court.

After losing his Ukrainian citizenship and parliamentary mandate, Derkach integrated into the Russian political system. He became a senator of the Russian Federation from the Astrakhan region and joined the Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security.

It is worth noting that the international community also reacted to his activities. As early as September 2020, the United States imposed sanctions against him due to attempts to interfere in the US presidential elections, confirming the global nature of his destructive work.
