## 🎯 Key Points

- Ukrposhta issued a stamp featuring Archangel Gabriel for Military Chaplain Day on October 12, 2026.
- The stamp depicts the official icon of the HUR heavenly patron in 18th-century Ukrainian baroque style.
- The initiative received Metropolitan Epiphanius's blessing and HUR Chief Kyrylo Budanov's support in 2025.
- The original icon was donated to the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra Museum during a solemn special cancellation.

On October 12, 2026, on Military Chaplain Day, Ukraine's national postal operator Ukrposhta presented a new thematic postage issue. The central design element features the image of Archangel Gabriel, who is officially recognized as the heavenly patron of Ukraine's military intelligence. The presentation and official special cancellation ceremony took place on the historic grounds of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.

### Features and Symbolism of the Postal Issue

The new philatelic release includes a sheet of eight stamps and a special art envelope. The main graphic motif is the official icon of Archangel Gabriel, created by artists Serhiy Herasymenko and Oksana Samson in the traditional style of 18th-century Ukrainian baroque. On the canvas, the heavenly patron is depicted in a half-length frontal view wearing Roman warrior armor. In his right hand, he holds a white lily as a symbol of the Virgin Mary, and on his left hand sits an owl—a classic symbol of wisdom and military intelligence. The text of the main Ukrainian scout's prayer is placed next to the image.

### Historical Roots and Blessing of the Tradition

The initiative for Ukrainian scouts to adopt a heavenly patron began earlier: in June 2025, this decision was officially supported by Kyrylo Budanov, Head of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, and Epiphanius, Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine. As Andriy Yusov, a representative of the HUR MOU, noted during the stamp cancellation ceremony, military intelligence agencies worldwide have their own emblems and traditions, but the institution of a heavenly patron is now enshrined not only in spiritual practice but also in state art and philately.

### The Role of Military Chaplaincy and Commemorative Events

The event dedicated to Military Chaplain Day brought together clergy, Archbishop Agapit of Vyshhorod, and chaplains who daily support Ukrainian defenders on the frontline. Kostyantyn Kholodov, Head of the HUR Chaplaincy Service, emphasized that the main task of spiritual mentors in war is to preserve humanity in extreme conditions. As a sign of respect, the original icon that served as the basis for the stamps was donated to the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra Museum. The philatelic novelty is already available to collectors in the Ukrposhta postal market and through the 'Vlasna Marka' service.
