- Manchester City suffered their first defeat of the season after seven consecutive wins.

Football club Aston Villa has brought an end to Manchester City's impressive winning streak at the start of the English Premier League season. The 8th round match held at the Birmingham team's home arena ended in a sensational 2:1 victory for the hosts. Enzo Maresca's side had won seven consecutive games prior to this fixture, but defensive mistakes cost them their first points in the tournament.

### Early goal and defensive errors

The hosts started the match aggressively and opened the scoring as early as the 6th minute. Manchester City defender Marc Guéhi made a costly mistake near his own penalty area, which Nicolas Jackson quickly capitalized on. The Aston Villa striker intercepted the ball and accurately struck past goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. The visitors attempted to regain the initiative and equalize before halftime, but the Birmingham defense remained resilient, blocking all positional attacks from the league leaders.

### Jackson's brace and broken streak

At the start of the second half, the Citizens leveled the score when Erling Haaland headed home an accurate free-kick cross from Iliman Ndiaye in the 52nd minute. However, parity lasted briefly as Ibrahim Mbaé set up Jackson once again in the 60th minute. The host forward scored his second of the match to restore the lead. Late in the game, Manchester City pushed for an equalizer, but defender Ian Maatsen cleared the ball off the goal line following a dangerous header from Haaland.

### Tournament standings and match significance

Despite suffering their first defeat of the current Premier League campaign, Manchester City retained the top spot in the league table. Enzo Maresca's squad continues to lead due to a solid cushion of points accumulated in the opening stage of the championship. For Aston Villa, this victory marked their third consecutive win against the opponent in domestic competition and their fourth successive home victory over this side, strengthening their ambitions in the upper half of the table.
