August 2026 in Ukraine promises to be hot and dry. According to the long-term forecast of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center (UkrGMTC), air temperatures in most regions will exceed the climatic norm. This is reported by RBC-Ukraine citing synoptic data.

### Temperature regime: heat and exceptions

The average monthly temperature in August is expected to be around +21...+25 degrees Celsius. In mountainous areas, the figures will be lower — from +17 to +19 degrees. However, forecasters note that in the eastern regions, as well as in Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson regions and Crimea, temperatures will be close to the climatic norm.

For comparison, the historical climatic norm for the average August temperature in Ukraine is +18...+24 degrees, and in the mountains — +13...+19 degrees. Absolute maximums in certain years reached +39.1...+42.0 degrees in most regions, excluding the western regions.

### Precipitation: uneven distribution

Contrary to expectations, the amount of precipitation in most regions will be within the norm. UkrGMTC forecasts 34-60 mm of precipitation, which is 80-100% of the climatic norm.

A significant rainfall deficit is expected in the western regions. There, precipitation may be only 36-46 mm, which is 50-70% of the norm. In the mountainous areas of the west, the situation will be slightly better: 50-70 mm of precipitation is expected. Historically, the lowest amount of precipitation (24-28 mm) falls in the Kherson region and western areas of Crimea, while maximums (up to 120 mm) are recorded in the Prikarpatie and Carpathians.

### Climatic context

The absolute minimum temperature in August in Ukraine ranges from +6.0 to +0.1 degrees. In rare cases in the Carpathians, Volyn, Lviv, northern, Kharkiv, Luhansk and Zaporizhzhia regions, frosts from -0.6 to -2.3 degrees were recorded. In the south of the country, minimum values usually do not drop below +6.1 degrees.
