### Standings and Current Form

Barcelona, managed by Hans-Dieter Flick, has made a strong start in defense of their league title, winning all nine opening La Liga matches and scoring 39 goals. However, just ahead of the crucial matchup, the Catalans suffered their first setback of the season, losing to French side PSG in the Champions League. Meanwhile, Real Madrid under Jose Mourinho approaches the derby in high spirits following strong results: Los Blancos defeated Sevilla in the league, pulled off a comeback against Roma, and thrashed German side Leipzig in Europe.

### Squad Absences and Head-to-Head History

Both giants approach the vital game with significant squad problems due to injuries and suspensions. Barcelona will be without Jules Kounde, Eric Garcia, Andreas Christensen, Rooney Bardghji, and Dani Olmo. Real Madrid will miss the suspended Vinicius, along with injured players Ferland Mendy, Raul Asencio, and Rodrygo.

Historically, the official matches between the Spanish giants span 264 encounters, including 192 in La Liga. Real Madrid holds a slight statistical advantage with 107 victories compared to Barcelona's 106, while 51 matches have ended in draws. Their most recent head-to-head clash in May 2026 ended in a 2-0 victory for the Catalans, which officially secured their league title.
