# Historic Breakthrough: BC Khmelnytskyi Enters the SuperLeague and Reshapes the Map of Ukrainian Basketball

Ukrainian basketball is preparing for major changes in the upcoming season. The Basketball Federation of Ukraine has officially approved BC Khmelnytskyi as a participant in the men's SuperLeague for the 2026/2027 season. This event marks a historic moment for the region: for the first time in its history, the Khmelnytskyi region will be represented by a team in the country's strongest division.

The triumphant path of the Khmelnytskyi club to the elite was completed in the final playoff series of the First League 2025/26 season. Under the leadership of head coach Anna Shlikova, the team demonstrated character and skill, leaving no chances for the opponents from "DiDiBao" (Kamianets-Podilskyi). The series ended with a score of 2:0 in favor of "Khmelnytskyi".

### Dominance on the Court

The path to gold was laid confidently and without unnecessary drama. In the first home game, the Podillians crushed their opponents with a score of 95:76, setting the tone for the entire confrontation. In the return match away, the team settled all questions regarding the championship, winning with a result of 83:62. This success brought gold medals of the First League to the players and the coaching staff.

A bright spot of the season was the contribution of defender Dmytro Kachanov. He was recognized as the most valuable player (MVP) of the First League season. In addition, the symbolic team of the tournament for the year was supplemented by two more representatives of the Khmelnytskyi club, which speaks to the high level of team play and the depth of the roster.

### Strategic Dialogue with the Federation

The team's success aroused lively interest from the leadership of the national Basketball Federation. Immediately after the end of the competition, a delegation of the BFU arrived in the city, led by General Secretary Volodymyr Drabykovskyi and SuperLeague Director Roman Boyko.

During the visit, an important meeting was held with the city head, Oleksandr Symchyshyn. The parties discussed the strategy for the development of basketball in the region and the prospects for the new stage for the club. Representatives of the Federation also inspected the local Palace of Sports, assessing the city's infrastructure capabilities.

### Preparation for the Elite

Currently, the club is fully engaged in preparing for the season in the SuperLeague. The key issue remains the final approval of the arena where "Khmelnytskyi" will host opponents from the top clubs of the country. The club and city leadership are working to ensure that the selected venue fully meets the strict technical requirements and safety rules established by the SuperLeague regulations.

The entry of "Khmelnytskyi" into the elite occurs against the backdrop of global changes in Ukrainian basketball. It was previously reported that due to the FIBA reform, Ukrainian clubs temporarily lost participation in European cups, which makes the internal struggle in the SuperLeague even more significant and competitive.
