# Berlin Rejects Moscow's Accusations of Nuclear Weapons Development: 'It's Part of Propaganda'

Berlin has categorically refuted claims by Russian intelligence that Germany is allegedly preparing to develop its own nuclear weapons. An official government spokesperson described these assertions as part of habitual Russian propaganda, lacking any factual basis.

### SVR Statement and Berlin's Response

On July 20, the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation (SVR) released information stating that, according to so-called "NATO military experts," Germany is capable of independently "accumulating the necessary fissile material" within one to three months and constructing a functional nuclear explosive device within one year.

The German government press secretary reacted immediately to these remarks: "The Federal Government regards this report as part of habitual Russian propaganda. These accusations simply do not correspond to reality."

Officials in Berlin emphasized that Russia is speculating on nuclear fears that it has repeatedly exacerbated with its own irresponsible statements. According to a representative of the Chancellery, Moscow is attempting to drive a wedge between NATO and the EU, as well as discredit Germany as one of Ukraine's strongest allies.

### Political Context and Elections in Eastern Germany

The official government spokesperson also suggested that such statements may be aimed at influencing public sentiment ahead of state parliamentary elections in Eastern Germany. This adds political weight to the accusations, which Berlin views as tools of destabilization.

### Nuclear Cooperation with France

Parallel to these events, Germany is intensifying cooperation with France in the field of nuclear deterrence. On July 16, Berlin and Paris put into practice an agreement reached in March by conducting joint air force exercises for the first time.

Furthermore, the German armed forces will participate in French nuclear exercises for the first time this year. These steps demonstrate a deepening strategic partnership between the two countries but do not indicate German plans to create its own nuclear arsenal.

Thus, Berlin insists that any hints of German nuclear ambitions are merely an attempt by Moscow to manipulate public opinion and weaken the Western bloc.
