A new scandal is brewing in the corridors of US power, linked to personnel reshuffles in the country's most secretive agencies. President Donald Trump has appointed Bill Pulte as Acting Director of National Intelligence, and the new head has wasted no time. From day one, Pulte has launched a massive reorganization that has already been dubbed a 'purge'.

### Early Start and Unexpected Request

According to data obtained by CNN, Pulte showed impatience and arrived at his new workplace a day before the official start of his term. This decision caught outgoing Director Tulsi Gabbard off guard. Instead of the standard handover procedure, the new chief immediately demanded a list of all agency employees along with their internal ratings.

Two sources within the agency confirm that such an aggressive request was not made without reason. It served as a signal for the start of mass layoffs. According to insiders, the downsizing process has already begun and is directed against the so-called 'deep state' — shadowy groups of influence that, in the opinion of the new administration, dictate political and economic decisions in the federal government.

### Security Centers Under Fire

It is expected that the blow will fall on key divisions responsible for protecting the country. The National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) and the National Counterintelligence and Security Center are at risk. These are the structures responsible for preventing terrorist attacks and protecting against espionage.

Employees received their first termination notices as early as Monday. Notably, the mass layoffs began immediately after Democrats from the Senate and House Intelligence Committees sent Pulte an official letter of warning.

### Warning from Legislators

Senator Mark Warner and Representative Jim Himes expressed deep concern in their letter. They reminded that the organization was created in response to the tragic events of September 11, 2001, and its main mission is to prevent future attacks.

In the letter, legislators directly pointed out the risks associated with the new leadership's lack of experience in intelligence matters:

- "Given your lack of experience in the intelligence community, it is difficult to imagine that in such a short time you have already formed a fully informed opinion on how to downsize the ODNI without jeopardizing national security".

- Deputies strongly recommended refraining from such steps that could jeopardize the agency's mission.

### Context of Political Reshuffles

Events in the intelligence community are not happening in a vacuum. As early as April, media reported that Donald Trump was considering massive personnel reshuffles in his cabinet. The main reasons were political pressure due to the war with Iran and falling approval ratings ahead of the midterm elections.

Earlier, during this 'personnel revolution', several high-ranking officials had already left:

- Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard was sent into retirement.

- Director of the Counterterrorism Center Joe Kent left his post due to disagreement with the administration's policy regarding the war in Iran.

- Attorney General Pam Bondi was fired after Trump was dissatisfied with the negative reaction of voters to the agency's actions in the Jeffrey Epstein files case.

Now that Bill Pulte has taken on the reform of the intelligence community, the question of how these changes will affect the real security of the US remains open.
