# Binance is changing the game in Europe: what will change for users from July 2026

The crypto industry is preparing for a major restructuring. Binance, the world's largest exchange, has announced a temporary change to its operating model in several European Union countries. This decision is a direct result of the completion of the transition period for the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation, which comes into full force on July 1, 2026. Already in the third decade of June, users in France, Italy, Spain, and Poland began receiving official notifications about upcoming restrictions.

### Why Greece dropped out of the license race

The MiCA regulation created a single legal framework for Crypto-Asset Service Providers (CASP) across the entire EEA. The key mechanism is "passporting": a company receives authorization in one country and gains the right to operate throughout the bloc. However, the deadline for submitting applications under the transitional regime expired on June 30, 2026.

Binance made a difficult decision — to officially withdraw its application submitted to the Hellenic Capital Market Commission (HCMC). In the company's statement, it is explained that, despite constructive dialogue and preliminary recognition that the document package met the criteria, final approval required additional time at the ESMA level. Given the tight deadlines, the exchange decided not to take risks and withdrew the documents to avoid violating regulator requirements.

### What awaits users from July 1, 2026

The introduced measures are temporary and aimed at bringing the platform's activities into compliance with new legal norms. From early July 2026, the following restrictions will come into force:

- **Stop onboarding:** Registration and verification of new clients from affected EU jurisdictions are suspended.

- **Trading restrictions:** Restrictions on standard operations are introduced for existing clients, including the spot market, derivatives, and balance top-ups.

- **Stablecoins banned:** A strict limit is imposed on the turnover of non-authorized stablecoins in the EU (Asset-Referenced Tokens and E-Money Tokens without European bank licenses). Major trading pairs with such tokens are withdrawn from circulation for retail investors.

It is important to note that Binance emphasizes: user funds are protected and held in segregated accounts. Restrictions do not apply to withdrawals — clients can freely transfer cryptocurrency and fiat funds to external non-custodial wallets or other licensed platforms.

### Alternatives and capital migration

Against the backdrop of the end of the liberal transitional period, European regulators are demanding that unlicensed CASPs cease servicing EU residents. Investors focused on the continuity of trading sessions in the eurozone have access to alternative platforms that have already completed compliance procedures and obtained MiCA authorization. These include the Austrian Bitpanda, the European divisions of the OKX exchange, and WhiteBIT, which holds a license in Austria.

Industry analysts note a growth in the volume of capital migration to non-custodial and hardware solutions for long-term asset storage. This is becoming the new norm for those who want to maintain control over their funds amidst tightening regulation.

### Binance's future in Europe

Company management states that the European region remains a strategically important element of the brand's long-term development. The strategy has been reoriented towards obtaining authorization through regulatory bodies of other member states — in particular, strengthening interaction with supervisory authorities in France and Ireland is being considered. The operator expects to complete the necessary legal and compliance procedures within the coming months and return to the EU market under the aegis of MiCA.
