# Blackouts Cancelled, But Save the Lights: How Heat and Russian Attacks Affect Ukraine's Power Grid

On Friday, July 3, the schedules for planned power outages in Ukraine will not be in effect. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing a statement from Ukrenergo. However, the absence of forced blackouts does not mean that the load on the grid has normalized.

Despite the encouraging forecast, all consumers are asked to shift the use of high-power appliances to daytime hours — from 10:00 to 16:00. It is during this period that industrial solar power plants operate most efficiently, providing the grid with additional energy.

### Why you need to save electricity in the evening

At the same time, during evening hours — from 16:00 to 23:00 — the use of high-power appliances should be strictly limited. During this period, the load on the power system traditionally increases, creating risks for grid stability.

The introduction of these recommendations is a consequence of a sharp increase in electricity consumption due to abnormal heat covering the entire country. The active use of air conditioners has increased the load on the power system by at least 25%.

### Risk factors: from heat to destruction

The situation is exacerbated by a complex of technical and external problems. The following factors influenced the introduction of restrictions:

    - Scheduled maintenance work on infrastructure facilities;

    - Restoration of networks following Russian attacks;

    - Reduction in electricity import volumes.

Recall that on the night of July 3, bad weather left almost 70 settlements without power in four regions. In the morning, due to another massive Russian attack, new outages occurred, affecting Kyiv as well.

### The most affected regions

Special attention should be paid to the state of the power system in the Sumy region. As early as July 1, the Ministry of Energy reported that the most difficult situation remains there. Due to infrastructure damage resulting from shelling, the largest number of consumers in the region remain without power.
