# Blow to culture: Russian forces destroyed 100,000 books from the Bookchef publishing house

As a result of another night missile strike by Russian occupiers in Ukraine, the warehouse of the Bookchef publishing house was destroyed. According to the company, more than 100,000 copies of books perished in the fire, including fresh runs that were supposed to go on sale.

### Destroying the reserve warehouse

The missile strike targeted a reserve warehouse located at the base of logistics partner Denka Logistics. This happened shortly after the facility began operations, replacing the central warehouse that was destroyed during a previous attack.

Representatives of Bookchef reported that the burnt books represented stock leftovers and new releases that had recently been received from printing houses. Some of these publications never made it to the readers.

"We always look forward to the moment when a new run arrives from the printing house. Today, instead of this joy, there is emptiness," the publishing house noted, emphasizing the scale of the cultural loss.

### Consequences for the market and readers

The company is currently assessing the damage from the enemy attack. Consequently, Bookchef is forced to revise the deadlines for fulfilling pre-orders, which will affect thousands of readers waiting for new releases.

This is not the first case of the destruction of book stocks during the war. On July 2, as a result of a strike on the central warehouse of Denka Logistics, about 800,000 books from the Bookchef publishing house were burnt. Thus, within a short period, hundreds of thousands of copies of literature have been taken out of circulation.

### Massive strikes on logistics

The attack on the Bookchef warehouse was part of a series of strikes on key logistics hubs in Ukraine. As a result of Russian shelling, facilities of other major companies were destroyed or damaged:

- The main warehouse of INTERTOP Ukraine was completely destroyed, from which tens of thousands of orders were sent daily across the country.

- The central warehouse of LIQUI MOLY Ukraine products was damaged, although the company is already working on restoring supplies.

- Strikes caused damage to the facilities of "Epitsentr", ROZETKA, and "Nova Poshta".

Significant losses in logistics infrastructure create risks of shortages of certain goods and complicate business operations in the conditions of the ongoing war. On how exactly these events affect the market and consumers — in the RBK-Ukraine material.
