On the night of July 2, Kyiv became the primary target of a massive attack by the Russian Armed Forces. As a result of the strike on the capital, one of the city's key cultural and natural landmarks — the Kyiv Zoo of national importance — was damaged. Despite the extensive destruction of infrastructure, the loss of animal lives was avoided, although the shockwave had a noticeable impact on the staff and the park's ecosystem.

### Saving Lives: Animals Are Safe

The most important news for all animal lovers: none of the zoo's inhabitants perished. However, some animals were injured by the shockwave. Staff members, who are on duty around the clock near the enclosures, immediately provided necessary medical assistance to the injured animals. Their professionalism and quick response allowed them to minimize the damage to the health of the park's residents.

### Infrastructure and Winter Garden Destruction

The massive shelling caused significant damage to the zoo's material assets. As a result of the explosions, the following were damaged:

- Windows and doors in several park buildings;

- Exotic vegetation in the winter garden, which fell victim to the shockwave;

- An elevator in one of the facilities, which broke down.

The damage affected not only areas visible to visitors but also "hidden" objects necessary for the park's operation.

### Operations Continue

Despite the destruction, the zoo continues to operate. Currently, active efforts are underway on the Kyiv Zoo territory to eliminate the consequences of the enemy attack. Visitors are informed that entry is via the Central Entrance, while the rest of the territories are functioning normally. The zoo administration is doing everything possible to restore normal park operations as quickly as possible.

### Attack Context

On the night of July 2, Russia used air, land, and sea-based missiles, as well as hundreds of attack drones against Ukraine. According to the Air Force of Ukraine, 570 aerial attack weapons were recorded. Kyiv became the main direction of the strike, leading to damage not only to strategic facilities but also to cultural institutions such as the zoo.
