# Blow to logistics: Ukrainian SSO destroyed a key railway bridge over the North Crimean Canal

June 23 marked a significant day for the transport infrastructure of occupied Crimea. Ukraine's Special Operations Forces (SSO) confirmed the destruction of one of the strategically important railway bridges over the North Crimean Canal. The agency's official statement contained a concise formulation: "The first one is gone".

### Strategic importance of the canal

The North Crimean Canal is a massive hydraulic engineering structure from the Soviet era, stretching for more than 400 kilometers from the Kakhovka Reservoir on the Dnipro River. Until 2014, it provided up to 85% of the peninsula's fresh water needs, supplying agriculture and cities, including Simferopol and Sevastopol.

However, after the occupation of Crimea in 2014, Ukraine cut off the water supply. Russia resumed it only after capturing the Kakhovka HPP in February 2022, but in the summer of 2023, after the dam was destroyed, water supply via the canal ceased again. Despite this, the canal's infrastructure retained critical importance for the Russian war machine.

### Logistics corridor for the occupiers

The territory along the canal has become a key transport hub. Dozens of crossings pass through it, which are used to supply Russian troops in Crimea and on the southern front. Equipment, ammunition, fuel, and personnel are transported along these routes. In total, the canal is crossed by more than 10 railway and about 100 road bridges.

### Course of operations in June 2026

In June 2026, Ukraine's Defense Forces intensified strikes on transport infrastructure in this region. On June 18 and 19, railway bridges in the Rozdolne and Vladislavovka areas were attacked. However, the operation was not yet complete.

On the night of June 22, SSO drones struck a railway bridge near the village of Rozdolne. As a result of the attack, the railway track was destroyed and one of the spans collapsed. Photos published by the fighters demonstrate the scale of the destruction.

### Second phase of the mission

After the first strike, the Russian occupiers attempted to restore communications. Underground members of the SSO resistance movement reported the arrival of special railway repair equipment at the site of the accident. This became the signal for the start of the second phase of the operation.

On the night of June 23, SSO drones returned to the target. This time, the strikes were directed not only at the remains of the bridge but also at the repair equipment that had arrived. As a result, the object was destroyed completely, dealing a serious blow to the enemy's logistical chains.
