# Bread under fire: how Russian terror in the Black Sea threatens famine and shock prices

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga has issued a worrying forecast: the escalation of Russian aggression in the Black Sea will inevitably lead to a global surge in food prices. In a statement made in Croatia, the diplomat warned that global food security is under threat, and the impact will be felt most acutely by the most vulnerable layers of the population.

### Food as a weapon of war

Sybiga emphasized that Russia is deliberately attacking civilian cargo ships, turning the Black Sea into a zone of fear. According to him, Moscow is using hunger as a weapon, attempting to destabilize the situation in the region. If the attacks do not cease, the resulting economic shock will become a catastrophe for the poorest countries and categories of citizens.

"Russia is doing to the Black Sea and food security what Iran did to the Strait of Hormuz and energy security," the minister stated, drawing a direct parallel to crises in other strategically important points on the planet.

### Consequences for global trade

The situation intensified following an incident on the night of July 24, when the commercial vessel "Christiana B" was damaged in Romania's exclusive economic zone. The cargo ship was heading from the USA to Ukraine. This case became yet another confirmation that Kyiv's maritime export has effectively stopped due to constant strikes on port infrastructure and foreign commercial vessels.

### Call for global solidarity

The Ukrainian minister called on the international community not to remain silent and to act immediately. He strongly recommended that countries in the region appeal to Vladimir Putin with a demand to stop attacks on freedom of navigation. Sybiga believes that only global solidarity can stop the transformation of food into an instrument of terror.
