# Bridge repair over the Tisa: what will change for drivers at the Solotvyno border crossing in June 2026

Temporary changes are expected soon at one of the key border crossings on the Ukrainian-Romanian border. The State Customs Service of Ukraine (SCSU) has warned drivers and carriers about partial traffic restrictions at the Solotvyno – Sighetu Marmației crossing. The reason is the large-scale reconstruction of the historic bridge over the Tisa River connecting the two countries.

### Schedule of restrictions and repair details

According to information received from the Romanian side, the temporary suspension of vehicle traffic will begin on June 8, 2026, and last until June 17. During this period, infrastructure work will be carried out daily during daylight hours — from 09:00 to 16:00.

It is important to note that the restrictions will apply exclusively to vehicles. Pedestrian traffic during these hours will remain open and operate in the normal mode. This decision will allow citizens not using personal transport to continue crossing the border and minimize inconvenience for residents of the border regions.

### Recommendations for drivers and logistics operators

The SCSU strongly recommends that anyone planning a trip through this crossing study the restriction schedule in advance and adjust their routes accordingly. Drivers and professional carriers should take into account that crossing the border by car will be impossible between 09:00 and 16:00.

Experts advise choosing alternative border crossings or planning to cross the border at night when repair work is not being carried out. This will help avoid long queues and delays that may arise during peak hours due to traffic congestion.

### Context: development of transport infrastructure

The repair of the bridge over the Tisa is part of a broader program to modernize border infrastructure. It was previously reported that the Northern bypass of Rivne, 14.5 km long, had been opened, which has already begun to relieve the city of transit traffic and improve logistics on the Kyiv – Chop route. The new road will also strengthen connections with border crossings on the border with Poland and increase the resilience of the transport system in the face of current challenges.

Parallel to the physical renewal of infrastructure, a personnel reform is underway in the customs service. Recently, all employees have been required to undergo mandatory certification, including testing on knowledge of legislation, assessment of professional competencies, and verification of integrity. Refusal to participate or unsatisfactory results may lead to dismissal. This is a step towards increasing the efficiency and transparency of work at the border.

Thus, the temporary restrictions at the Solotvyno crossing are not just a technical necessity but part of a systematic effort to improve the quality of border crossing and ensure traffic safety. Citizens and businesses should pay attention to official notifications and plan their trips in advance to minimize inconvenience.
