The United Kingdom has adopted a firm stance regarding threats from Iran, declaring its readiness to respond to any aggression against itself or its allies. UK Defence Secretary Wes Streeting urged not to attach undue importance to the 'rattling of swords' from Tehran, emphasizing that London is fully prepared to defend its interests in the region.

### London's Position: Defense Without Offense

"We are ready to respond to any attacks that Iran wishes to carry out against this country or our allies, and we will continue to do so," Streeting stated in an interview broadcast by the BBC. At the same time, he confirmed that the UK is not joining and does not plan to participate in US offensive military actions against Iran. However, the sides have reached full agreement on ensuring the freedom of civilian shipping in the Strait of Hormuz — a key artery of global energy trade.

### Navy Mission and Coordination with the US

Next week, Streeting will hold a meeting with US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth to discuss coordinated actions. The UK has expressed readiness to lead a naval mission to clear mines in the Strait of Hormuz as soon as favorable conditions are created. The safety of this route is critical for global oil and gas prices, as well as for the cost of living in many countries.

### Russian Incident in the English Channel

The head of the British defense department also commented on the recent live-fire exercises by a Russian warship in the English Channel, calling them "demonstrative, irresponsible, and unprofessional." According to him, this incident is yet another reminder of the threat from Russia, which British forces are countering on a daily basis.

### Diplomacy and Pause in Strikes

Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts to stabilize the situation in the region continue. According to media reports, Iran and Oman may agree on a plan to open the Strait of Hormuz to resume safe civilian shipping. Earlier, US President Donald Trump, after 13 days of attacks on Iranian territory, ordered the strikes to cease. As a result, Washington extended the pause for the second time in a row, although there have been no official comments on the reasons for stopping the attacks yet. Tensions in the region remain due to Houthi activity.
