The issue of drinking water quality in Ukrainian cities under martial law has gained particular urgency. According to the Kyivvodokanal representative, at the point of connection of a residential building to the enterprise's centralized networks, the water can be drunk without fear. The quality at this stage meets established standards.  However, the situation changes drastically when water passes through internal building communications. The expert noted that the condition of pipes in high-rise buildings often leaves much to be desired due to the lack of regular preventive flushing, for which building balance holders or management companies are responsible. That is why in areas like Troieschyna, drinking water directly from the tap is not recommended.

### Regulation of standards and economic constraints

State regulation of drinking water quality has become a separate topic of discussion. Serhiy Horkutsenko reported that new standards were introduced nationwide for the period of martial law. At the same time, utility workers often face bureaucratic and financial barriers. Thus, the enterprise's attempts to switch to more effective but expensive reagents encounter resistance from regulators who insist on using the cheapest materials, as long as formal indicators remain within the norm.

### Infrastructure threats and wastewater management priority

 The water supply situation in Kyiv directly depends on the security of energy facilities and the intensity of enemy attacks. Changing strike tactics has significantly complicated the work of utility services. Horkutsenko emphasized that in a crisis, the absolute priority becomes preserving the wastewater disposal system. If the capital is left without sewerage, it threatens a large-scale epidemiological disaster within a few days. The expert does not venture to predict the stability of water supply to apartments, but guarantees that in the event of disruptions, regular deliveries of drinking water by tank trucks will be organized.### Contradictory data

There are certain discrepancies in assessments of tap water safety among experts and consumers. While official representatives of Kyivvodokanal assure high water quality at the output of the city's trunk networks, independent environmentalists and housing and communal services specialists point to the critically worn-out fund of internal building networks in most Ukrainian cities. A contradiction arises between laboratory indicators at pumping stations and the actual composition of water flowing from the consumer's tap after overcoming kilometers of outdated pipes and deposits.
