A significant event has occurred in the history of one of the planet's largest musical events — the Eurovision Song Contest. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has officially confirmed that Canada will participate in the contest for the first time in 2027, which will be held in Bulgaria. This is the first new participant in the last 12 years, following Australia's accession to the contest family in 2015.

The decision to admit the country became possible after a meeting in Prague on June 25, where the broadcaster CBC/Radio-Canada received full member status in the EBU. Now, the Canadian delegation will compete for a spot in the grand final, starting their journey in one of the semi-finals.

### Official reaction and global expansion

Mary-Philipp Bouchard, President of CBC/Radio-Canada, expressed her joy at joining the contest community. According to her, this is a unique opportunity to present Canadian talent on one of the most prestigious musical stages in the world. Eurovision Director Martin Green also congratulated the country, noting that the contest, born in Europe, continues to confidently expand its global influence.

Interest in the song contest in Canada has been growing rapidly. Statistics show that in 2026, the country entered the top three most active states outside Europe in terms of the number of votes in the "Rest of the World" category. Active discussion of the issue of participation took place in recent months, and the government of Prime Minister Mark Carney allocated $150 million to the budget for the modernization and development of the public broadcaster.

### Canadian stars on the Eurovision stage

Although Canada's official debut as a participating country will take place only in 2027, performers from this country have already appeared on the stage of the international contest several times, representing other states. The most striking example is Celine Dion's victory in 1988, when she represented Switzerland with the hit "Ne partez pas sans moi".

In 2001, Canadian artist Natasha St-Pier took fourth place, representing France with the composition "Je n'ai que mon âme". A more recent example is singer La Zarra, originally from Montreal, who performed for France in 2023 with the song "Évidemment", taking 16th place.

Thus, Canada's entry into the Eurovision family becomes a logical conclusion to a long journey, marking a new stage in the history of the contest.
