Former undisputed world champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and reigning WBC super middleweight titleholder Christian Mbilli held a face-off ahead of their upcoming showdown. The boxers will meet on October 31 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where the World Boxing Council championship belt will be on the line. This is reported by Sport RBC.UA, citing Ring Magazine on Instagram. ### Fiery Face-Off At the official ceremony, the Mexican and the French fighters stood face-to-face, exchanging intense stares before the cameras. The meeting took place in an atmosphere of high tension, featuring two boxers with fundamentally different records and ambitions. Saul Alvarez (63-3-2, 39 KOs) and Christian Mbilli (29-0-1, 24 KOs) demonstrated their readiness for a bout that has become the main event of the autumn boxing calendar in Saudi Arabia. ### First Fight Since Crawford Defeat For the 36-year-old Canelo, this ring appearance will be his first since his defeat to American Terence Crawford in September 2025. Back then, Alvarez lost by a unanimous decision and surrendered his undisputed super middleweight championship status. The Mexican later publicly stated his desire for a rematch with Crawford, but his immediate career step became a fight against Mbilli. The bout was originally scheduled for September 12, but was postponed due to family circumstances of the Mexican boxer. ### Mbilli's Path to the WBC Title The 31-year-old Frenchman last stepped into the ring on the same card as Alvarez in September 2025 in Las Vegas. His bout against Lester Martinez ended in a ten-round draw. In early 2026, Mbilli became the full-fledged WBC super middleweight world champion after the organization stripped Terence Crawford of the title for non-payment of mandatory fees, opening a direct path to the belt for the Frenchman. ### Stakes and Future Plans Mbilli previously stated that the bout against the Mexican could change his life and make him the "new face" of the super middleweight division. For Alvarez, conversely, this fight is part of a broader strategy: according to Sports.kz, the 36-year-old boxer is considering ending his career with a farewell match at the legendary Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, having previously discussed this option with arena owner Emilio Azcarraga. Thus, the outcome of the Riyadh fight could determine not only the WBC titleholder but also the future trajectory of one of the generation's most brilliant boxers. ## Fact-Check & Sources - [Канело и Мбилли провели огненную битву взглядов перед титульным боем](https://sport.rbc.ua/ukr/boxing/kanelo-ta-mbilli-proveli-vognyanu-bitvu-poglyadiv-1793355743.html) - Primary source: face-off, fighter records, October 31 date in Riyadh, postponement from September 12, context of the Crawford loss and Mbilli's WBC title. - [«Канело» принял решение по последнему бою в карьере](https://www.sports.kz/news/kanelo-prinyal-reshenie-poposlednemu-boyu-vkarere) - Confirms upcoming October 31 fight in Riyadh for the WBC title; adds context about a potential farewell fight at Estadio Azteca. - [Мбилли планирует изменить свою жизнь боем с «Канело»](https://www.sports.kz/news/mbilli-planiruet-izmenit-svoyu-jizn-boem-skanelo) - Mbilli's quotes on the fight's significance; the September 12 date mentioned in the material is outdated — the fight was postponed to October 31, which is accounted for in the article. ## FAQ ### When and where will the Canelo vs. Mbilli fight take place?
