Onion prices have also started to fall, with the main cause being the harvesting of late varieties, which has significantly increased the vegetable's supply on the market. Onions are now sold at 12–18 hryvnia per kilogram, and over the week they became cheaper by an average of 10%. Farmers are mainly selling onions that, due to certain quality characteristics, are not suitable for long-term storage, and are therefore interested in a quick sale. Market participants also report a significant reduction in the harvest of quality onions this season due to unfavorable weather conditions, which in the long term may limit the depth of further declines.

### Year on year: vegetables are still more expensive

Despite the weekly price drop, both vegetables remain noticeably more expensive than a year ago. On average, carrots are now 32% higher in price than during the same period in 2025, while onions are 35% higher than last year. Thus, the current decline is more of a seasonal and situational nature and has not yet brought prices back to last year's level.

### Outlook for autumn

Market participants do not rule out further price declines for carrots if demand remains at its current low level. Earlier, in August, against the backdrop of active arrivals of the new harvest in Ukraine, potatoes, onions, carrots and tomatoes became cheaper, and experts warned that in autumn the seasonal factor would weaken and vegetable prices would increasingly depend on the volumes of produce and storage conditions. The prices of cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers and other seasonal products may also change over the coming weeks.
