# Change in Zelenskyy's route: why the Ukrainian delegation is flying to the G7 summit via Chisinau

On the evening of June 15, 2026, an unusual route for the Ukrainian government aircraft was recorded in the schedules of air carriers. The plane carrying Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his delegation to the "G7" (Group of Seven) summit is departing not from the usual Polish border airport of Rzeszów, but from Chisinau (Moldova).

### Flight logistics: from Krakow to Geneva

Details of the flight, reconstructed from aviation service data, paint a clear picture of the delegation's movement. The government Airbus A319 with tail number UR-ABA had arrived earlier that day in the Moldovan capital from Krakow, Poland. At Krakow airport, the aircraft was undergoing scheduled technical maintenance.

The choice of Chisinau as the starting point was dictated by the geography of the event. The plane is heading to Geneva, Switzerland — the nearest major international airport to the summit venue. From June 15 to 17, 2026, the G7 summit will be hosted by the French resort town of Évian-les-Bains.

### Political context: from Rzeszów to Chisinau

The change in the logistics scheme has an obvious political subtext. This is already the second time this June that the Ukrainian delegation has used a Moldovan airport instead of a Polish one. For three years, Rzeszów has served as the main departure point for all foreign visits by the President of Ukraine, providing a logistical link with Europe.

The sharp turn towards Moldova coincided with a period of diplomatic cooling between Kyiv and Warsaw. The cause of the tension was the decision by the Ukrainian command to award one of the Special Operations Forces units the honorary title "named after the Heroes of the UPA". This decision provoked an official protest and sharp indignation from the Polish authorities.

### Official position of Kyiv

Despite the obvious correlation of events, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine urges not to politicize logistics issues. The department officially stated that the choice of Chisinau was dictated solely by security and protocol considerations, not by inter-state disagreements.
