## Key Points

- Shannen Doherty (Prue) left the series after the third season and passed away on July 13, 2024, at the age of 53 after a battle with breast cancer.
- Holly Marie Combs (Piper) appeared in all eight seasons and in August 2026 stated that she had effectively stepped back from the acting profession, though did not rule out a return.
- Alyssa Milano (Phoebe) continued working in film and TV, branched into production and activism, and in 2026 presented a documentary project on perimenopause.
- Rose McGowan (Paige) joined the project in the fourth season, having already been known for her role in 'Scream'.

The series "Charmed" captivated audiences worldwide for eight seasons, turning the Halliwell sisters, as well as Cole and Leo, into iconic pop-culture figures. However, after the project concluded, the career paths of the actresses who played the main characters diverged significantly: some secured new leading roles and expanded into production, while others stepped away from active filming. Below is a chronicle of what Shannen Doherty, Holly Marie Combs, Alyssa Milano, and Rose McGowan have been doing since the iconic fantasy series.

### Shannen Doherty: from Prue Halliwell to podcasting and battling illness

Shannen Doherty played Prue Halliwell, the eldest of the three sisters, who possessed the power of telekinesis. Her character remained central for the first three seasons, after which the actress left the project, and her character died in the storyline. By the time she joined the fantasy show, Doherty was already well-known to the public for her role as Brenda Walsh in the teen drama "Beverly Hills, 90210". After leaving "Charmed", she continued to act in film and television, including the series North Shore. In 2008, the actress returned to the role of Brenda Walsh in the "90210" spin-off, and later reunited with former colleagues in the project BH90210 (2019), where original cast members played fictionalized versions of themselves. In recent years, Doherty hosted the "Let's Be Clear" podcast, where she discussed her career, relationships with colleagues, her experience working in Hollywood, and life during cancer treatment. On July 13, 2024, Shannen Doherty passed away at the age of 53 after a long battle with breast cancer; her death was a great loss for fans of both iconic series in which she played lead roles.

### Holly Marie Combs: Piper Halliwell and stepping back from the profession

Holly Marie Combs portrayed Piper Halliwell, the sister who could initially freeze time and later learned to trigger explosions. Her character appeared throughout all eight seasons, and the actress became one of the show's most recognizable stars. Before the fantasy series, Combs already had successful television experience, notably in the drama "Picket Fences", for which she received critical acclaim. After the conclusion of "Charmed", the actress was in no rush to play witches again: in 2010, she joined the series "Pretty Little Liars", where she played Ella Montgomery, Aria's mother, and worked on the project until 2017. In recent years, her activities have become increasingly tied to the history of the iconic show: together with Brian Krause and Drew Fuller, she hosts "The House of Halliwell" podcast, where participants watch old episodes, share behind-the-scenes stories, and discuss working on the series. In August 2026, Combs revealed in an interview on her own podcast that she had effectively stepped back from the acting profession: recent offers did not spark her desire to return to the set, and her decision was influenced by age restrictions and a narrowing choice of interesting roles for women in the film industry. However, the actress has not officially ended her career and has not ruled out a potential return to acting in the future.

### Alyssa Milano: Phoebe Halliwell, producing, and social activism

Alyssa Milano played Phoebe, the youngest of the Halliwell sisters, who had the ability to see the future. Before joining the fantasy series, the actress was already a television star thanks to the sitcom "Who's the Boss?" and the series "Melrose Place". After "Charmed" ended, Milano continued working in television: she received a role in the comedy "My Name Is Earl", played one of the lead characters in the series "Mistresses", and appeared in the Netflix comedy project "Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later". A separate direction of her career became production — Milano worked on the films "Brazen" (2022) and "Who Are You People" (2023), in which she also played the lead roles. The actress's social activism garnered widespread attention due to the #MeToo movement: in 2017, she urged women to share their experiences of sexual harassment, which helped spread the movement on social media; however, it was founded by activist Tarana Burke back in 2006. In 2025, Milano appeared in the series "Elsbeth", and in January 2026, she presented a documentary project titled "Balance: A Perimenopause Journey", dedicated to the topic of perimenopause and women's health.

### Rose McGowan: Paige Matthews and her path in film

Rose McGowan joined the series in the fourth season after Shannen Doherty left the project. She played Paige Matthews, the Halliwell sisters' half-sister, who helped restore the Power of Three. Before "Charmed", McGowan had already made a name for herself in cinema: one of her most well-known early works was the role of Tatum Riley in the horror film "Scream". Thus, by the time she joined the fantasy project, the actress already had an established cinematic reputation, which influenced her trajectory outside the series.

Collectively, the careers of the four actresses demonstrate different life scenarios after a hit show: the tragic loss in Doherty's case, a conscious withdrawal from the profession for Combs, the expansion of activities into production and the public sphere for Milano, and an early transition into big-budget cinema for McGowan. For viewers who grew up on "Charmed", these stories remain part of the memory of a series that defined an entire generation of fantasy dramas for eight seasons.
