# Chase, tear gas, and covered plates: how Kyiv police quelled a riot at the Territorial Recruitment Center

A heated debate has erupted on social media regarding an incident in the Desnyanskyi district of Kyiv. Users discussed alleged "altercations" between the police and employees of the Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center (TRC). However, the capital's patrol police officially refuted these rumors, labeling them false. The real story turned out to be no less dramatic, but it concerned not bureaucratic conflicts, but a desperate chase for a dangerous violator.

### Violator with covered license plates

It all started with a routine patrol. Inspectors noticed a Nissan whose driver had committed a traffic violation. However, the police were drawn not only by the driving behavior but also by the appearance of the car: the license plates were covered, making identification of the vehicle impossible.

When law enforcement officers demanded a stop, the driver ignored the lawful request. Instead of stopping, he attempted to flee by driving onto the sidewalk. This action created a direct threat to pedestrians and those around. To stop the violation, the patrol officers called for backup and eventually blocked the vehicle.

### Attack on police officers

The driver was detained with handcuffs applied in accordance with Article 45 of the Law of Ukraine "On the National Police." But calm did not last long. Suddenly, a group of unknown individuals approached the scene and attempted to interfere with the lawful actions of the guardians of order.

The situation instantly escalated into a conflict. The aggressive group used tear gas against the inspectors and damaged the police service vehicle. The patrol officers had to go on the defensive, using physical force as well as tear gas and irritant substances to repel the attack. An investigative and operational group was called to the scene.

### Mobilization status and criminal liability

As a result of the incident, several administrative protocols were drawn up against the driver. He was accused of violating requirements regarding the use of license plates and failing to comply with a lawful stop order. Furthermore, the fugitive was charged under the Criminal Code for threatening or using violence against a law enforcement officer.

Particular resonance was caused by the fact that during the data check, it was revealed that the violator is considered a person violating mobilization legislation. It was likely this fact that spawned the rumors of a conflict with the TRC. The suspect was taken to the district TRC and the investigative department. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.

### Context: chases in Kyiv

This case is not isolated in recent times. Similar incidents have already been recorded in Kyiv. For example, at night in the Darnytskyi district, a Subaru staged a chase along the left bank, resulting in the car skidding onto the shoulder on Hmyry Street. In another case, police pursued a traffic violator, and one of the officers was forced to use his service weapon, firing several shots.
