# Chemical threat in the Poltava region: how rescuers eliminated a leak after shelling

In the Poltava region, at a critical infrastructure facility, an incident involving a leak of a hazardous chemical substance occurred. The cause of the incident was Russian shelling, which led to damage to storage tanks and the decompression of the system. The threat of toxic substance spread was promptly neutralized by the forces of the State Emergency Service (SES) of Ukraine.

### Liquidation of consequences under difficult conditions

Chemical protection specialists were dispatched to the accident site immediately after receiving the signal. Work was carried out under conditions of increased danger and a complex situation. Rescuers, equipped with protective suits and gas masks, began to seal damaged tanks and eliminate leak points. Thanks to professionalism and rapid response, the threat was completely eliminated, allowing work at the facility to resume safely.

### History of chemical incidents in the combat zone

The incident in the Poltava region is not an isolated case. Russian attacks on industrial facilities have repeatedly led to environmental and chemical risks. In June, a bioethanol production plant was hit in the Sumy region. As a result of the shelling, tanks were damaged, causing decompression and the spillage of molasses.

A similar situation occurred in Mykolaiv. There, the fall of unmanned aerial vehicle debris damaged a tank with vegetable oil. Part of the contents entered the Southern Bug River. To prevent water body pollution, rescuers were forced to install special boom barriers.

These incidents demonstrate how military actions can transform into environmental disasters, requiring rescue services not only heroism but also high technical training.
