Beijing has commented on the sharp deterioration of diplomatic relations with Berlin following reports of secret training of Russian military personnel on Chinese territory. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning, during a press conference, called the German accusations baseless and urged Berlin not to draw hasty conclusions.

Events unfolded rapidly. In early July 2026, the Chinese ambassador to Germany was summoned to the German Foreign Ministry for an emergency meeting. The reason for this serious diplomatic step was reports in Western media that Beijing was assisting in the training of Russian soldiers for combat operations against Ukraine.

On July 6, Mao Ning answered a question from a correspondent for the Deutsche Presse-Agentur agency, who asked about the impact of this incident on bilateral relations. The diplomat noted that the meeting with the ambassador was a standard exchange of views on issues of mutual interest.

### "Pure Slander"

Responding to the essence of the accusations, the Chinese Foreign Ministry representative took a firm stance. Mao Ning categorically rejected information about the training of Russian military personnel, calling it "baseless" and "pure slander".

"Regarding the reports you mentioned that have caused concern in Germany, we have already clearly stated that these reports are baseless and pure slander," the diplomat stated.

The Chinese side also emphasized its position on the Ukrainian crisis, asserting that Beijing has always adhered to an objective and impartial approach. In Mao Ning's statement, there was a call for Germany to "objectively and rationally assess the position and role of China," which, according to the diplomat, advocates for a political settlement of the conflict.

### Facts That Triggered the Scandal

Tensions arose against the backdrop of investigations by Reuters. Journalists reported on secret exercises that took place in November 2025 at a military facility in Beijing. According to agency sources, these training sessions were personally approved by Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov. It was precisely this data that triggered the summons of the ambassador to the German Foreign Ministry and the subsequent public response from Beijing.
