# Chinese accent in Ukrainian defense: import dependence and the struggle for supply stability

Ukrainian weapons manufacturers, especially in the field of unmanned systems, demonstrate a desire for full localization of production. However, the reality is that a significant portion of critical components still comes from abroad. In wartime conditions, where supply stability becomes a matter of life and death, dependence on imports turns into one of the main problems of the industry.

### Dependence on Chinese components

According to data cited in the RBK-Ukraine article "Chinese accent. What Ukrainian drones are made of and what parts the defense industry lacks," the share of Chinese components in the production of some types of weapons can reach 40%. This applies to both microelectronics and specialized chips necessary for drone flight control and stabilization.

Representatives of the defense industry emphasize that the problem lies not only in the availability of parts but also in their systematic supply. Boris Budeyansky, Director of the technology company BlueBird Tech, noted: "For war, it is critical that a component can be obtained not just once, but systematically and in large volumes".

### Shortage of key components

Among the most scarce items, manufacturers name:

- Microelectronics;

- GNSS navigation modules;

- Inertial systems;

- Sensors and optical equipment;

- Thermal imaging matrices;

- Battery systems;

- Specialized chips for flight control and stabilization.

The situation with fiber optic cable, which is not produced in Ukraine, becomes particularly acute. NAUDI Executive Director Serhiy Honcharov reported that global prices for this product have risen significantly due to high demand from the defense industry and the development of data centers.

### Impact on production

Even replacing a single component often requires re-testing of the product, software adaptation, and reconfiguration of production processes. This directly affects production speed and order fulfillment. At the "General Cherehnya" company, they emphasize that supply predictability is a key factor for maintaining work pace.

### Seizing the initiative in the drone war

Despite supply difficulties, the Ukrainian side continues to develop its capabilities in the field of unmanned systems. Ivan Kyrychevsky, a serviceman of the 413rd Unmanned Systems Regiment "Raid", stated that Ukraine has seized the initiative in the drone war and is systematically destroying Russian logistics.

According to him, the greatest effect is achieved not only through technological development but also through the training of operators who have learned to use drones as one of the key tools on the battlefield. This allows for effectively compensating for component supply shortages and maintaining high combat readiness.
