## 🎯 Key Points

- The transition to winter time in Ukraine in 2026 will take place on the night of October 24-25.
- Sunday is chosen due to reduced strain on transport, logistics, and IT systems.
- The time calculation order is regulated by Cabinet Resolution No. 509 of 1996.
- Most modern gadgets switch automatically, but mechanical clocks must be turned back by one hour.

In October 2026, residents of Ukraine will traditionally face the need to turn their clocks back to winter time. This procedure, regulated by current legislation, raises many questions not only regarding the expediency of the process itself, but also concerning the choice of a specific day of the week for this step. ### Regulatory Framework and Schedule of Changes

The procedure for calculating time on the territory of the state is strictly regulated by Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 509, which was adopted back on May 13, 1996. According to this document, the second time zone time, known as Kyiv time, officially operates in the country. This regulatory act establishes a mandatory schedule for seasonal clock changes twice a year, which optimizes daylight hours and saves energy resources. ### Why Sunday Was Chosen

The practice of changing the clock hands on the night from Saturday to Sunday is driven solely by practical and logistical considerations. On weekends, most citizens are at home, which minimizes the risk of being late for work, study, or important meetings. An extra hour of sleep on the night of the transition to winter time helps the body adapt more smoothly to the new schedule without critical stress on the nervous system.

### Impact on Transport, Logistics, and Financial Markets

During weekends, the overall traffic intensity of public, intercity, and international transport decreases significantly. This creates ideal technical conditions for transport companies to promptly update electronic timetables and synchronize schedules with foreign partners. In addition, the closure of global financial exchanges and banking institutions on Sunday night allows necessary system work to be carried out without the risk of disruptions in international payment transactions.

### Technical Aspects and the Date of Transition in 2026

Reducing the load on servers, state online registries, and mobile applications on weekends minimizes risks for critical infrastructure. System administrators receive a secure window to update software and time zone servers. Considering the calendar for 2026, the last Sunday of October falls on the 25th, so the actual turning back of the clock by one hour will take place on the night of October 24-25.
