# Crimea plunges into darkness: authorities stop hiding the scale of the energy collapse

The energy system of Crimea is experiencing an unprecedented crisis. "Krymenergo," the company responsible for supplying electricity to the peninsula, has radically changed its style of communication with the population. If during the first week after the massive blackout on July 6, the press service still published specific lists of power-cut cities and districts, now the information has become vague and general.

### Information blockade and "general words"

From the middle of the week, specific names of settlements disappeared from "Krymenergo" messages. Instead of detailed reports, formulations appeared stating that "part of the settlements in the North-Western and Eastern energy districts are completely without power." In the following days, the company merely stated that the "most affected parts" of three energy districts were without power, refusing to clarify details.

By Friday morning, the situation reached a boiling point: "Krymenergo" admitted that due to attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), "some settlements of the peninsula" were without power, and directly stated that it is currently impossible to inform residents about the time of electricity supply.

The reasons for such information restraint were voiced by the occupation head of Crimea, Sergey Aksyonov. Reporting on his trip to the Chernomorsky and Razdolnensky districts, he stated: "We are limiting information in the public sphere; unfortunately, we cannot announce all decisions."

### Reality on the ground: from Simferopol to Sevastopol

Despite the authorities' attempts to hide details, the real picture is becoming clear thanks to residents' comments on social media. On Friday, power outages were recorded in Simferopol, Dzhankoy, Krasnogvardeyskoye settlement, and the Chernomorsky district.

A special situation has developed in Sevastopol. Since Friday morning, a strict power outage schedule was introduced in the city: residents now receive electricity for only two hours with a six-hour break without power. This is a significant tightening compared to the previous regime of "3 hours with power, 3 hours without power."

Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Razvozhayev confirmed that the situation with power supply has become more complicated, and the authorities can no longer adhere to exact schedules. Priority is given to hospitals, pumping stations, and other vital facilities.

### Water supply crisis and consequences of strikes

The energy collapse in Crimea, which began with a full-scale blackout last Monday, has led to a cascading effect. Mass power outages have already been going on for more than a week, which inevitably affects water supply.

According to analysts, water problems have become chronic for a number of cities:

- In Alushta, water outages have been recorded for seven days in a row.

- In Simferopol, water supply has been disrupted for six days.

- In Yevpatoria, interruptions have been observed for the fifth day.

The situation with electricity also remains critical: in Dzhankoy, Krasnoperekopsk, and Armenian, problems have been recorded for eight days, and in Sevastopol — for seven.

### AFU responsibility

The cause of the energy collapse is systematic strikes by the Armed Forces of Ukraine against the peninsula's infrastructure. The Commander of the Special Operations Forces (SOF) of the AFU, Vadym Madiar, has repeatedly reported on the successes of the "Molochka" and "Crimean Switch Off" operations.

On the night of July 13, it was announced that 15 Russian ships and 9 energy nodes were hit. In the following days, on July 17, the Defense Forces hit the patrol ship "Svetlyak" in Kerch, the "Slavneft-Yanos" refinery in Yaroslavl, as well as Russian "shadow fleet" tankers in the Black and Azov Seas. These actions continue to inflict systematic damage to Crimea's energy sector, making the restoration of previous operating modes impossible in the short term.
