# Crimea plunges into darkness: satellites record a massive drop in lighting after night attack

The night of July 5 marked yet another stage in the systematic destruction of the energy infrastructure of occupied Crimea. Powerful strikes on power facilities led to widespread outages, and an analysis of satellite data confirms a worrying trend: the peninsula is rapidly plunging into darkness.

### Targets of the strike: Bakhchisarai and Zimino

According to data published by the Telegram channel Exilenova+ and confirmed by RBK-Ukraine, key nodes of the power grid were damaged as a result of the night attack. The main target was a facility in Bakhchisarai — the "Bakhchisarai" substation with a voltage of 220 kV. In addition, the "Zimino" substation (10/35/10 kV) was hit.

Immediately after the attack, residents of Bakhchisarai reported a complete lack of electricity. The situation was confirmed by data from the NASA FIRMS thermal anomaly monitoring service, which recorded signs of fires in the area of one of the damaged facilities.

### Satellite images: Crimea is darkening

Experts paid special attention to the comparison of satellite images from the last year. Images taken in July 2025 and July 2026 vividly demonstrate a sharp drop in the level of night lighting on the peninsula.

This phenomenon is directly linked to regular strikes on the energy system. Systematic attacks on substations and power supply elements have led to the Crimean power system operating in emergency mode, and outdoor lighting has practically disappeared in many areas.

### Economic consequences: collapse of the tourist season

The consequences of the infrastructure destruction go far beyond technical problems. The summer tourist season in Crimea is proceeding significantly weaker than expected. Despite the fact that local hotels are offering significant discounts, the flow of vacationers continues to decline.

Constant power outages and an unstable situation are forcing many Russians to give up trips to the peninsula in favor of other resorts. The energy collapse has become one of the main factors undermining the economic attractiveness of the region for tourists.
