On the night of Thursday, October 1, 2026, the National Hockey League hosted another action-packed game night, treating fans to three high-scoring and memorable matchups. The main highlights of the evening were the historic milestones achieved by star forward Sidney Crosby, alongside incredible high-scoring games in Denver and Pittsburgh, where favorites dominated their opponents. ### Sidney Crosby's Historic Record and Pittsburgh's Triumph The undisputed hero of the season's opening stretch was Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby. In an away game against the Philadelphia Flyers, his team secured a dominant 7-0 victory. Crosby himself set a unique NHL record by starting his 20th season as the team's permanent captain. With this milestone, the legendary Canadian surpassed previous record-holder Steve Yzerman, who served as captain of the Detroit Red Wings from 1983 to 2006. Furthermore, Pittsburgh's star trio of Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Kris Letang secured their 494th combined regular-season win, eclipsing the previous mark set by Joe Thornton, Joe Pavelski, and Marc-Edouard Vlasic. ### Fiery Shootout in Denver and Other Match Results Equally thrilling was the matchup in Denver, where the Colorado Avalanche hosted the Los Angeles Kings. Spectators witnessed a spectacular game featuring a combined 12 goals, with the home team celebrating an 8-4 victory. One of the main architects of the Avalanche's success was Brock Nelson, who contributed a goal and two assists. The emotional intensity of the game boiled over into a third-period fight between Nathan MacKinnon and Brandt Clark, resulting in five-minute penalties for both players. In a simultaneous fixture, the Toronto Maple Leafs narrowly defeated the New York Islanders 2-1, powered by opening-period goals from Colton Sissons and Easton Cowan. ### Contradictory Data It is worth noting that minor discrepancies appear in sports reports and analytical materials from specialized outlets regarding secondary assist statistics and the exact timing of penalty minutes in the Colorado vs. Los Angeles game. While the official NHL game sheet records the exact time of MacKinnon and Clark's penalties in the 14th minute of the third period, some foreign observers initially pointed to the very end of regulation. Nevertheless, the key historical milestones of Sidney Crosby's records and the final scores of all three matches remain fully verified and undisputed by sports statisticians. ### Context and Tournament Prospects These recent matchups clearly demonstrate the high level of competition and uncompromising nature of the new NHL season. The successes of Pittsburgh and Colorado highlight the excellent form of their veterans and the roster depth of top clubs, while the defeats for Philadelphia and the Islanders prompt coaching staffs to seek fresh tactical solutions. Experts note that the current regular season has plenty of intriguing records and unexpected results in store over the long tournament stretch. ## ❓ FAQ ### Q: What record did Sidney Crosby break? **A:** Sidney Crosby set an NHL record by playing his 20th season as captain of a single franchise, surpassing Steve Yzerman's milestone. ### Q: What was the final score between the Colorado Avalanche and Los Angeles Kings? **A:** Colorado won the game 8-4, with a combined total of 12 goals scored by both teams.
