# Death of the 154th Brigade Commander: Prosecutor's Office to Investigate Three Theories Regarding Colonel Kononnikov's Death

The Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the field of defense of the Eastern region has announced new details regarding the investigation into the circumstances of the death of Colonel Vladimir Kononnikov, commander of the 154th Separate Mechanized Brigade. Law enforcement agencies continue their active work to establish the truth, relying on data from the crime scene examination and witness testimonies.

### Circumstances of the Body Discovery

The body of the commander of military unit A4962 was found in an open area in the Zaporizhzhia region. According to available data, the site of the tragedy is located near a forest belt close to one of the settlements. The deceased's personal pistol was also found at the scene.

As previously reported, the colonel was found without signs of life on Sunday, June 28. During the initial examination, the officer was found to have a gunshot wound.

### Three Theories of the Investigation

Immediately after the incident, materials were entered into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations under Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (intentional murder). However, as noted by the department, to establish the exact cause of death, three equally probable theories are being considered:

- Intentional murder.

- Suicide.

- Accidental discharge of a weapon (negligent handling of weapons).

### Complex of Expert Examinations

To finally clarify the situation, investigators have initiated a series of complex expert examinations. In particular, forensic medical and ballistic examinations have been appointed. Additionally, within the framework of the investigation, a special post-mortem forensic psychological and psychiatric examination is planned, which will help exclude or confirm psychological factors that influenced the outcome of the events.

Investigative actions are continuing: law enforcement officers are actively interrogating servicemen who may shed light on the last hours of Colonel Kononnikov's life.
