# Flamingo Missile Breaches Defense: How the VNIIR-Progress Plant in Cheboksary Was Destroyed

Footage has emerged online showing extensive destruction at the VNIIR-Progress plant in Cheboksary. Russian defensive structures, including specially built towers and anti-drone nets, proved ineffective against a precise missile strike. The operation, known as Deep Strike, demonstrated the effectiveness of new weaponry against strategic targets deep in the enemy's rear.

### Ineffectiveness of Defensive Systems

Photos published by the ASTRA Telegram channel clearly show the aftermath of the impact: one of the facility's buildings is completely destroyed. Notably, protective nets are visible stretched directly over the ruined structure. To install them, the occupiers erected special structures around the plant — according to OSINT analysts, about 15 such towers are visible in the footage.

These engineering solutions were implemented in a rush. As late as 2025, such towers were not present at the facility. However, even this large-scale defensive structure failed to withstand the strike of a Ukrainian missile, which breached the defense and caused critical damage.

### Consequences of the Attack and Confirmation of Facts

As a result of the strike on the strategic object, at least three people were injured. The fact of the successful hit on the plant and the presence of casualties were confirmed at a high level: the Head of Chuvashia Oleg Nikolaev and the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The VNIIR-Progress plant is a critically important link in the Russian military-industrial complex. The enterprise specializes in producing high-tech electronics for the Russian army. The plant's products include:

    - Satellite GNSS receivers;

    - Anti-jamming antennas for Glonass, GPS, and Galileo navigation systems (Comet-type modules);

    - Components for Shahed-type kamikaze drones;

    - Modules for UMPK guided aerial bombs;

    - Electronics for Iskander-M and Kalibr ballistic and cruise missile systems.

### Escalation of Strikes and Panic in the Rear

The defense plant in Chuvashia has repeatedly been a target of Ukrainian strikes. On the night of November 26, 2025, unidentified drones attacked Cheboksary, causing a fire on the plant's territory. However, the intensity and range of the strikes have increased significantly.

During the large-scale night attack on May 5, 2026, the Ukrainian Defense Forces employed the latest weaponry. As Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated, Flamingo (F-5 Flamingo) missiles were launched at the plant. They successfully covered a distance of more than 1,500 kilometers and struck workshops producing navigation and automation systems.

This attack caused unprecedented panic deep in Russia's rear. That same night, for the first time, a missile alert was declared in the country more than 2,000 km from the border with Ukraine. The threat of an air strike was detected in at least 18 regions of the Russian Federation, including the remote Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug.
