# Diesel shortage in Ukraine: gas station networks introduce refueling limits due to seasonal demand

The diesel fuel market in Ukraine has faced a temporary shortage caused by a sharp rise in domestic consumption. According to experts, the situation is expected to last until mid-August. In response to the lack of resources, a number of gas station (GS) networks have begun to impose limits on the volume of fuel dispensed to a single customer.

### Causes of the shortage and forecast

Dmytro Leushkin, founder of the Prime fuel group, reported that current demand for diesel fuel exceeds contracted import volumes by approximately 25%. This means the market is in a state of imbalance where consumption is outpacing supply. Analysts estimate that the situation will begin to stabilize after August 15, when new shipments of fuel are expected to arrive.

The expert noted that in the coming days, the number of gas stations forced to introduce restrictions will grow. "Consumption will exceed the import of contracted fuel in the country. In other words, every fourth gas station will be forced to either keep limits or stand without fuel," Leushkin emphasized.

### Geography and specifics of restrictions

Restrictive measures have been introduced primarily at gas stations in rural areas. This measure is aimed at preventing the mass purchase of fuel by farmers in industrial containers (eurocubes), which creates a shortage for regular drivers. In major cities, limits are applied less frequently; however, the absence of restrictions at a specific station often indicates a complete lack of fuel in the tanks.

### Limits at gas station networks

According to the provided data, various fuel retail networks have established the following limits on the dispensing of diesel fuel per vehicle:

    - ESKO network: up to 50 liters.

    - 24/7 network: up to 100 liters.

    - Chipo network: up to 150 liters.

The supply situation remains tense, and traders are forced to review logistical routes to ensure market stability during the peak season.
