# Diesel will drop below 80 hryvnias: why gas station prices will start falling as early as this week

Drivers who have watched fuel prices rise for months can finally breathe a sigh of relief. Experts predict an imminent and noticeable drop in the cost of diesel fuel in Ukraine. Within the next few days, the price at gas stations could fall below the psychological mark of 80 hryvnias per liter.

The signal for this came from the global economy. The London exchange, which traditionally sets the tone for the market, recorded a sharp drop in the cost of diesel. If a ton of fuel cost more than $1,500 at the beginning of spring, by the end of May the price nearly reached the $1,000 mark. In parallel, oil symbolically fell below the $100 per barrel level.

As expected, the Ukrainian market reacted instantly. Wholesale prices for diesel have already hit the bottom at 70 hryvnias per liter. Serhiy Kuyun, director of the consulting group "A-95", is confident: retail prices cannot lag behind wholesale prices for long.

### Global factors and local reality

The main driver of the decline was geopolitics. Global traders are optimistic, believing that the conflict around the Strait of Hormuz will be resolved. This reduces the risk of supply disruptions and calms the market. Furthermore, the belief in the imminent end of the war in Ukraine also plays a role in lowering prices.

"Diesel is the most problematic item, which grew the most, almost 30 hryvnias in a month. Now the price will move down very dynamically," the expert notes. He predicts that within a week we will see prices below 80 hryvnias at the pumps.

Specialists emphasize: if the situation in the Middle East stabilizes, it will be impossible to contain the price drop. New supplies will arrive promptly, displacing expensive goods from the market. At the same time, experts consider any talk of oil rising to $200 to be speculation without a factual basis.

### First steps towards a decline

The market has already started moving. Major networks, such as OKKO and WOG, have recorded a drop in retail prices of 1 hryvnia. This is just the beginning of the process. While gasoline prices on the world market remain stagnant, diesel fuel is showing a confident downward trend, and Ukrainian drivers just have to wait for these changes to be fully reflected in their receipts.
