A surprising scandal has erupted in diplomatic circles concerning Slovakia's stance on the Ukrainian conflict. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico made a sharp statement refuting reports that his country has joined the "Coalition of the Willing" — a format for supporting Ukraine initiated by France and the United Kingdom.

The situation escalated after the publication of a report by the portal euBrief, which, citing the French embassy, stated that Bratislava participated in the coalition's work. According to the outlet, Slovakia received an invitation to a meeting on July 13, and in the absence of the Prime Minister and relevant ministers, the country was allegedly represented by the Slovak ambassador to France.

### Personal Intervention by the Prime Minister

Upon learning of the publication, Robert Fico did not wait for official clarifications and personally contacted the French Ambassador to Slovakia, Nicolas Syran. The conversation, it seems, took place in a harsh tone. The head of government demanded an immediate public refutation of the information regarding Slovakia's membership in this alliance.

"A few minutes ago, I personally spoke with the French Ambassador to Slovakia, Nicolas Syran, and strongly requested that the French embassy stop spreading false information about our membership in the 'Coalition of the Willing'," Fico stated.

According to the Prime Minister, the French diplomat explained the incident as a misunderstanding and assured that Paris would take steps to publicly clarify the situation.

### "Military Alliance" and "Child's Play"

Robert Fico left no doubt about his position: Slovakia is not only not a member of the "Coalition of the Willing" but also has no intention of joining it in the future. He harshly criticized the format of the alliance itself, calling it a military union.

"As the Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic, I officially state that Slovakia was not, is not, and will not be a member of the Coalition of the Willing supporting the war in Ukraine," the politician emphasized.

Fico expressed deep dissatisfaction that such disinformation required intervention at the highest level. He compared the diplomats' actions to "child's play," worthy of the opposition and anti-government media.

"This is a military alliance. We will never become its member. At the highest level, they are playing child's games," the Prime Minister summarized.

### Criticism Within the Country

The scandal provoked a stormy reaction within Slovakia's political establishment as well. Former Foreign Minister Ivan Korčok criticized the government's actions, pointing to the ambiguity of Bratislava's position. In his opinion, the authorities themselves created uncertainty regarding their participation in the coalition.

"The Russian ambassador is not summoned to the mat, but the French ally is immediately," Korčok wrote on social media, noting that the government's actions create the impression that Slovakia is trying to maintain distance from the coalition while not giving a clear answer regarding its participation.

Recall that the "Coalition of the Willing" was established in 2025 and unites about 35 states ready to provide additional support to Ukraine. Robert Fico has repeatedly criticized this initiative, calling it a "club of war supporters." Previously, he also stated that the full-scale war of Russia against Ukraine cannot be ended by military means and insisted that conflict resolution is possible only through negotiations.
