For Wednesday, October 14, 2026, the official exchange rate of the dollar is set at an unprecedented 45.08 hryvnias. Compared to the previous banking day, when the figure was 44.95 hryvnias, the dollar rose in price by 13 kopecks at once. The country's financial market continues to react to macroeconomic factors, while citizens and businesses monitor the further dynamics of exchange rates in commercial banks and exchange offices.

Simultaneously with the US currency, the European rate has also resumed confident growth. If on October 13 the European currency cost 50.24 hryvnias, then for October 14 the National Bank of Ukraine raised the official rate to 50.43 hryvnias. Thus, the increase in the price of the European currency amounted to 19 kopecks. Such changes increase public attention to the currency basket, as the depreciation of the hryvnia directly affects purchasing power and the cost of imported goods.

### NBU position and risks of a 50 hryvnia exchange rate

Against the backdrop of rumors and fears of a possible breakthrough of the psychological mark of 50 hryvnias per dollar as early as the beginning of 2027, the management of the National Bank of Ukraine has provided official comments. NBU Deputy Governor Volodymyr Lepushynskyi, during a conversation with journalists, emphasized that the regulator fundamentally does not form or publish specific forecast benchmarks for the exchange rate of the national currency for remote periods, relying on market regulation mechanisms.

At the same time, central bank representatives are rushing to calm the market, citing many years of practical experience in conducting interventions and monitoring the foreign exchange market. According to Volodymyr Lepushynskyi, the accumulated experience gives no reason to expect sharp, uncontrolled, or catastrophic jumps in quotes. 'From all the practice that the National Bank has carried out in the foreign exchange market, we can say for sure that the exchange rate does not fly into outer space,' summarized the NBU deputy head, noting the stability of the regulator's instruments.

### Economic priorities and inflation control

The main priority of the monetary policy of the National Bank of Ukraine remains maintaining macroeconomic stability and combating inflationary processes. As financial sector experts note, the current weakening of the hryvnia is largely due to high demand for currency from importers and general geopolitical and economic pressure on the state economy amid a protracted crisis.

Nevertheless, the regulator's management is firmly aimed at returning consumer inflation to the target figure of 5% and keeping it close to this safe range in the future. It is the effective fight against inflation that is designed to protect the savings of Ukrainians from depreciation, minimizing the negative consequences of fluctuations in the currency market for the daily life of citizens and the stability of the banking system.
