# Drone attack on Saratov and Borisoglebsk: fires reported at strategic facilities

On the night of July 8, a large-scale attack by unmanned aerial vehicles occurred on Russian territory. According to Russian Telegram channels and OSINT communities, strikes hit two cities simultaneously — Saratov and Borisoglebsk. Fires were reported in both settlements.

### Saratov: alarm and explosions

Official confirmation of the threat came from the Governor of the Saratov Region, Ruslan Busargin. Around 02:14, he posted a message on social media, noting that the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation had received information about the possible use of drones. Busargin reported that warning systems were activated in areas of potential threat, and all emergency services were put on full alert.

The situation in the city quickly escalated. Starting at 02:40, local residents began reporting explosions. Soon, OSINT channels identified the target of the attack — the Saratov Oil Refinery (SNPZ), widely known as "Cracking." Footage appeared online showing an active fire in the vicinity of the industrial facility.

Due to the incident, temporary restrictions on the arrival and departure of flights were introduced at the local airport.

### Borisoglebsk: debate over the target

That same night, Borisoglebsk in the Voronezh Region was also hit by drones. A fire was reported there as well, although the exact target of the attack remains a subject of debate in the information space.

Different sources provide conflicting data: some report an attack on an oil depot, while others point to an airfield. According to the latest data, Su-34, Su-35, Su-30SM fighters and other aviation equipment are based at this airfield.

### Context: a series of strikes on energy infrastructure

The attack on the Saratov Oil Refinery is not an isolated incident. On the night of May 31, the Ukrainian Defense Forces had already struck the same facility, which also resulted in a fire. The plant is one of the key enterprises in the oil refining industry of the Volga region.

Just a week ago, on July 6, a similar attack led to the shutdown of the Omsk Oil Refinery — the largest in Russia.

Andrey Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, previously stated that fuel shortages in the Russian Federation would increase amid massive strikes on oil refineries. According to him, several leading oil refineries in the country are already not operating in normal mode.
