# Earthquake in Khmelnytskyi Oblast: What is known about the tremors in July 2026

On the morning of July 9, 2026, an earthquake with a magnitude of 1.6 was recorded in the Khmelnytskyi Oblast of Ukraine. This is already the fourth such event in the country since the beginning of the month. The data was provided by the Main Center for Special Control (MCSC), which monitors geophysical phenomena in Ukraine and on a global scale.

### Event parameters and localization

The underground tremors occurred at 09:43:36 Kyiv time. The hypocenter of the earthquake was located at a depth of 5 km. MCSC specialists classified this event as imperceptible to humans.

The epicenter was recorded on the territory of the Novoushytsia territorial hromada of the Kamianets-Podilskyi district. Geographically, this is the area between the Zharnovka and Dniester rivers, in close proximity to the Dniester Landscape Sanctuary. The nearest settlement by land to the source of the tremors is the village of Bereziivka.

The map published by the MCSC shows that the event occurred relatively close to the border with Moldova. Notably, underground activity in the Novoushytsia hromada has been recorded before.

### Earthquake statistics in July 2026

According to the agency, the earthquake on July 9 was the fourth in Ukraine since the beginning of the current month. Earlier in July, seismic events were also recorded, although their parameters are not provided in this report.

The MCSC urged citizens who may have felt the underground tremors to leave messages via a special form on the agency's website. This information is necessary for specialists to refine the energy parameters of the earthquake.

### Context of seismic activity

Earlier, in early February 2026, earthquakes were recorded in several regions of Ukraine that were felt from the sea. In some areas, residents reported building vibrations. Previously, issues regarding the seismic threat to Crimea and southern Ukraine, as well as hypothetical risks to the Crimean Bridge and Moscow, were also discussed.

At the moment, official information from the MCSC is limited to the statement of the fact of an imperceptible earthquake in the Khmelnytskyi Oblast and the collection of additional data from the population.
