The US administration is preparing a major request to legislators to combat a new outbreak of the Ebola virus. The White House plans to ask Congress to allocate more than $1.4 billion. These funds are necessary to prevent the spread of the infection worldwide and to protect American citizens.

According to the information received, the lion's share of the requested amount — $800 million — will be directed towards the creation and operation of a specialized quarantine center in Kenya. Another $500 million is planned to be allocated from global health funds. These funds will be used to organize the evacuation and transportation of US citizens infected with the virus to specialized medical facilities. ### Scale of the Epidemic in Congo

The current outbreak of Ebola fever in the Democratic Republic of Congo is caused by a rare strain of the Bundibugyo virus. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the situation is developing rapidly: in the first month alone, more than 1,000 cases of infection were recorded, which is a record figure among all previous episodes of the disease. The virus has already claimed the lives of 267 people.

### First Case in Europe and US Reaction

The global threat was confirmed by the appearance of the first recorded case of the Ebola virus in Europe. The infection was contracted by a doctor who recently returned to France from a humanitarian mission in Congo. In connection with this, American officials have appealed to European partners to tighten travel restrictions and increase financial contributions to the international fight against the spread of Ebola.
