# Elon Musk's social network X has completely rewritten the Android app from scratch

Elon Musk's social network X has completed a major project to update its mobile client for the Google Android platform. About a year ago, the company announced plans to completely overhaul the app, which was lagging behind the Apple iOS version in development. Now, the updated version is available to the general public via the Google Play Store.

### The largest engineering project

Last August, Nikita Bier, Head of Product at X, announced the start of work on the new app. He stated that the company is bringing in top talent to tackle this task, calling it "one of the largest engineering projects" in the platform's history. Instead of a standard update, the developers chose the path of completely rewriting the code from scratch.

According to Nikita Bier, the new version is faster, smoother, and more reliable. The main advantage provided by the rewritten code is the ability to implement new features at lightning speed, which was previously difficult due to the outdated architecture.

### New features and current tasks

In recent months, the X ecosystem has been actively expanding, acquiring tools such as the X Money payment service and the X Chat messenger. The release of the radically updated Android app is critical for the platform's growth in popularity, considering that Google's operating system dominates the mobile market.

Despite the success of the relaunch, the new version still has tasks requiring refinement. Developers need to optimize performance on older devices and add support for Spaces audio rooms. In the future, the app plans to introduce a built-in video editor, video reactions to posts, cash tags for stock tickers, and customizable user feeds.
