# Emergency power outages in the Odesa region: how heat and network damage led to an energy shortage

Emergency power outages have been introduced in the Odesa region. The causes are twofold: a sharp increase in consumption due to heat and infrastructure damage following shelling.

### Heat and grid overload

High temperatures have forced residents to actively use air conditioners and other household appliances. This has led to a significant surge in load on the region's power system.

### Consequences of shelling

Some equipment in the region remains damaged following previous shelling. The networks cannot handle the required volume of electricity transmission without the risk of emergency situations.

"To avoid accidents, DTEK Odesa Power Networks are forced to implement emergency outages," the company's official statement reads.

### Situation in Ukraine

The region leading the country in the number of power cuts changes periodically depending on the load and the state of the networks in different areas. Recently, a similar situation occurred in Kyiv: due to a missile attack, part of the city was left without power, and residents had to wait for the restoration of electricity supply.
