# Employer doesn't pay ESF: how to lose pension and sick leave benefits and what to do

The absence of a single social contribution (ESF) in the employment record is not just an accounting formality, but a direct threat to the employee's financial future. If the employer evades paying contributions, the employee risks losing key social guarantees. This concerns not only the future pension, but also payments for temporary disability, unemployment benefits, and maternity benefits.

### Consequences of non-payment of contributions

Lawyer Yevheni Bulymenko, commenting on the situation for RBC-Ukraine, emphasized the scale of the problem. According to him, non-payment of ESF deprives the worker of the right to several types of support simultaneously. Without proper deductions, the state will not be able to accrue a full pension, and in the event of illness or job loss, payments will be significantly reduced or not provided at all.

### Action algorithm for the employee

In the event of detected violations, the specialist recommends acting sequentially and legally correctly. Lawyer Bulymenko outlined a clear plan of action:

    - **Written application.** The first step should be an official demand to the employer to eliminate violations. This must be documented.

    - **Appeal to the court.** If dialogue does not help, the employee has the right to file a lawsuit. In court, one can demand compensation for damages caused by the non-payment of the single social contribution.

### How to check your rights and future pension

Every citizen has the opportunity to assess the amount of their future payments in advance. To do this, you do not need to personally visit Pension Fund offices. The PFU website has a special online calculator that allows you to independently calculate the approximate pension amount based on available data.

Experts also remind that the institution of pension for length of service still exists in Ukraine. However, the right to it is held only by certain categories of citizens, such as aviation workers, railway workers, medical workers, and artists. To receive such a pension, special seniority confirmed by official records and deductions is required.
